Product Spotlight: Amazon address book

Learn about one of the unsung heroes of the Amazon Pay checkout experience.

Sometimes saving a few minutes can make a big difference in our day. If there is one thing we all miss it is time. As part of our ongoing product series to share how Amazon Pay works, we are showcasing one of the features that is giving shoppers the gift of time and a little peace of mind: the address book.

Find yourself spending too much time typing in your personal info at checkout? Dealing with shipping issues after accidently typing the wrong address? Texting your friend for the third time to get their address? Amazon’s address book solves for all of that.

The address book allows you to utilise the contact information already stored in your Amazon.com account when you purchase items on third party sites with Amazon Pay. With all of your previously used shipping addresses securely stored in one place, all you have to do is sign-in and your full address book is available at checkout. Now you have the flexibility to send a package where you want without the hassle of tracking down an address, whether you are sending those new headphones to your home, office or an Amazon locker near your gym across town.

A fast & easy checkout experience

According to the Baymard Institute, the average online shopper has to fill out 15 form fields to check out and pay. For those shoppers sending their purchase somewhere beyond their own billing address, tracking down additional shipping information creates even more friction. Amazon Pay lets you skip extra form fields, automatically populating both your default address and payment details. You can change your billing or shipping location without any typing, saving time finding, entering information, and checking out. The address book makes paying easy while giving you the peace of mind that your purchase is going to the right place.

How it works

Below is an example of Amazon Pay’s mobile checkout, highlighting how the address book fits into the commerce experience. After choosing Amazon Pay and signing in, your address book automatically populates your default address so it’s one click to confirm, or a few clicks to send it somewhere else.

What are businesses saying about the address book feature?

What are customers are saying?

I like using Amazon Pay, especially for new vendors I’m not totally sure of. It makes the checkout process easy, since my payment details and address are already entered.
It was very handy to use Amazon payments, as I was doing a transaction on a mobile device in public and didn’t want to have to haul out my wallet and enter in all my credit card, name, billing address, etc. info in that environment.
I did not have to enter my address and credit card info. Just my Amazon username and password. It was very efficient.
