Achieving 29% payment volume growth in two months with Amazon Pay

Learn how German cycling-parts store bike-components increased their total payment volume by 18% after implementing Amazon Pay’s latest checkout solution

Cyclists depend on the right equipment from trusted providers to have fun, stay safe, and perform at their best. Based in Germany, bike-components is an online bicycle store that sells both traditional bicycles and electronic bikes along with components and tools to customers worldwide. They stock fundamental equipment plus thousands of specialised parts for cyclists of all levels.

“Our founders couldn’t easily find the specific bike parts that they needed, so they started bike-components as their solution to that problem,” says Jérôme Weber, Product Owner for Ecommerce Solutions at bike-components. “Since 1997, we’ve established ourselves as a leading retailer for bike parts.”

For 10 consecutive years, bike-components has been voted the best online bike shop by readers of MTB-News.de. The company offers more than 55,000 articles, including highly specialised bicycle components. “We always try to offer products that might be hard or impossible to find in other bike shops,” says Weber.

To provide the best possible experience for customers, bike-components is upgrading their entire website and enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. As part of this project, they upgraded to Amazon Pay latest checkout solution, a modernised technology that streamlines the customer experience.

Building trust and convenience with Amazon Pay

Since 2019, bike-components has used Amazon Pay as a payment option, available as an express checkout method In 2024, Amazon Pay represented approximately 9% of bike-components’ total sales. “Our goal was to increase the conversion rate and make the checkout process as convenient as possible,” says Weber. “The strong brand awareness of Amazon and the associated trust of their users were the decisive factors in our decision to use Amazon Pay.”

In March 2025, bike-components upgraded to Amazon Pay latest checkout solution, thereby improving customer experience and driving higher conversion rate. The company collaborated with the Amazon Pay team to complete the upgrade seamlessly and efficiently, growing their expertise as they learned about new features and tools. “Customers definitely prefer a quick way of checking out instead of logging in, choosing a payment method, and going all the way through the checkout,” says Weber. “Less friction and more action is the key, and Amazon Pay plays a big role in that.”

bike-components and the Amazon Pay team completed the upgrade in just 64 business hours, including testing and launching the new system. “The migration went quite flawlessly, both with the communication in the beginning and also throughout the process,” says Weber. “The support from the Amazon Pay side was really good, and all the questions that we asked were answered. This was a good project from the start to the final implementation.”

Orders surge 34% after implementing Amazon Pay express checkout

Using Amazon Pay contributes to bike-components’ goal of improving the customer experience. Shoppers can simply click the Amazon Pay button without going through an extensive registration and checkout process, so there’s a higher chance of conversions.

bike-components offers different payment providers in some countries, depending on local availability, but Amazon Pay offers consistency, reliability, and convenience for shoppers around the world. “Amazon Pay provides a great experience overall,” says Weber. “Trust plays a big role, and Amazon is definitely a brand name that’s widely known worldwide. That’s part of the reason why Amazon Pay is in our top three payment methods in use.”

The implementation of Amazon Pay in March 2025 has driven significant improvements for bike-components. Their payment volume showed strong consecutive growth over two months, with total orders increasing 34% after implementing Amazon Pay latest payment solution. “The user experience has a significant impact on our conversion rate, and because Amazon Pay is one of our direct payment options, our numbers are increasing,” says Weber. These results show the immediate impact of the upgraded Amazon Pay express checkout option.

Enhancing online shopping for cyclists

bike-components plans to increase their presence in markets outside of Europe. In the coming years, the company intends to double the number of articles that they offer. Using Amazon Pay will help bike-components keep the checkout experience fast, convenient, and secure as their inventory and customer base grow. bike-components will also further enhance their online shop by more deeply connecting it to their ERP software and other backend systems. And they will implement Amazon Pay in more places on their website, such as on product detail pages.

“We are happy with the implementation, and we’re happy with the number of users that are choosing Amazon Pay as a payment method on our store,” says Weber.
